Omegapoint wants to get girls to choose upper secondary education that opens the door to higher education in the IT sector

Omegapoint is one of the few external companies that will be present with a stand at the upcoming High School Fair at Älvsjömässan on November 22 - 24. The goal is primarily to meet young girls who are thinking about what it is like to work in the IT industry.

”We were a few women at Omegapoint who felt that we were working in a male-dominated industry and we felt that it was time for us to have a more equal gender distribution in the IT industry,” says Rebecca Ocklind, consultant at Omegapoint Stockholm. ”The challenge is that young girls generally do not apply for IT-related education to the extent needed to ultimately get enough people to train for a career in the IT sector.”

Five women within Omegapoint decided to do their bit and suggested that they attend the High School Fair with a booth to arouse interest and give tips on what paths there are to a career in the IT industry.

”"We want to show that what we do is a lot of fun, and that programming means so much more than just writing computer programs and that it doesn't have to be that difficult. Hopefully, we as women can show ourselves as role models and at the same time break down certain prejudices about programmers." says Rebecca.

Omegapoint realized early on the value of actively working to identify, attract and further develop Sweden's best talents in IT and technology, sometimes already during their studies at colleges and universities.

Back in 2011, Omegapoint launched a program to attract students who wanted to jump-start their careers after completing their studies. Participants in the Omegapoint Academy Professional Program (APP) alternate theoretical training with interesting client assignments, while receiving support from Omegapoint's most experienced consultants.

”"Omegapoint's corporate culture is characterized by openness, development and commitment. We value knowledge and personal development more than anything else, which is why I am proud and happy that Rebecca and her colleagues took this initiative." says Anna-Clara Söderbaum, CEO Omegapoint Stockholm

Omegapoint has, as a company, prioritized and supported various initiatives for women in the IT sector for many years. An example of this commitment is the support for DataTjej – one of Sweden's largest IT conferences for girls.

  • For the past five years, Omegapoint has sponsored the DataTjej conference, a conference organized annually for women studying IT or computer science at college and university level.
  • The conference alternates between Sweden's largest colleges and universities. Omegapoint has participated in Stockholm, Uppsala, Gothenburg, Linköping and Lund.
  • In 2019, DataTjej will be held in Umeå and Omegapoint will of course be there and sponsor the conference.
