Half are girls at Omegapoint's IT conference for students
110 IT students will take part in Omegapoint's skills conference in Stockholm on April 17th. The common thread is "Craftsmanship" and the aim is to give back to the academic world.
”"Student Conference 2015 is our time machine to give back to the university world what Omegapoint owes it. It is the day we wished we had been able to experience as students ourselves," says Dan Bergh Johnsson, senior consultant at Omegapoint."”
The interest in the conference is enormous. Omegapoint released the news about the conference at a networking event for IT girls in Gothenburg in February and within 24 hours the conference's 110 places were fully booked. Over 100 students are currently on the waiting list. Just over half of the participants are girls.
“Talking about new technology and how to design good software is something that has received a very positive response among IT students in general and girls in particular,” says Daniel Deogun, senior consultant at Omegapoint and one of the initiators of the student conference.”
The program consists of three parallel tracks: development, testing & quality, and safety. The idea is to create a smorgasbord of professional lectures where everyone has the opportunity to tailor their competency day to their own interests.
Giving back to “academia” feels obvious and natural to Omegapoint. The company has a culture of competence where one must constantly acquire new knowledge and share it with others. The student conference is a first step in spreading knowledge to the world around them and is launched within the framework of “Omegapoint Academy”; the umbrella for external competence initiatives.
