Cybersecurity companies Omegapoint and Basalt join forces to address the growing threat landscape

Cyber threats against Swedish companies, authorities and municipalities are increasing. Partly due to increased geopolitical risks, and partly because the threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and technically advanced. Now the leading Swedish cybersecurity companies Omegapoint and Basalt are joining forces to meet the threat landscape with more force.

Digitalization has continued to accelerate in recent years. According to a report from Kearney, Sweden is the country with the second highest digital impact in the world. This means a high level of digital capability, regulations adapted to digital environments and a high level of maturity among companies. But as society becomes increasingly connected, the risks and the number of potential entry points for cyberattacks increase. If you look at the global cybersecurity index, which measures how countries prioritize cybersecurity, Sweden is lagging behind. There, the country is in 26th place. The gap between the progress of digitalization and our cybersecurity capabilities is therefore growing larger every day.

At the same time, the current geopolitical situation, combined with new advanced threats, requires a stronger and more comprehensive security effort. Now, business protection company Basalt and leading cybersecurity company Omegapoint are combining their operations, skills and experience. The merger aims to scale up capacity and capability to better help joint customers against increased cyber threats and risks.

Omegapoint's CEO Johan Malmliden says:

Basalt is a leading expert company in operational protection and cybersecurity that we have great respect for. I am very proud and happy to welcome all of Basalt's 90 employees to the Omegapoint family. Through the merger, we combine several areas of expertise where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Omegapoint's cybersecurity focus and Basalt's expertise in operational and security protection means that we gain deeper experience and greater capacity to help customers with the highest possible security requirements, for example in the defense industry and central authorities. Together with Basalt, we become an even safer hand in a rapidly changing world.

Basalt specializes in operational and security protection and has deep expertise in systematic security work, security consulting work and the development of secure solutions. The company works to reduce vulnerability and increase the ability of companies and authorities that handle sensitive information for their own operations or for the functioning of society.

We work to protect society's most sensitive businesses from internal and external threats. Together with Omegapoint, we can now deliver to these customers to a much greater extent than before. Omegapoint's internal corporate university, the Academy, gives us a well-established forum to exchange expert competence with Omegapoint's staff. This means that we will be able to recruit and train more cybersecurity and operational security experts at an increasingly rapid pace. Therefore, it felt natural to join forces, says Basalt's CEO Nicklas Haglund.

The government's decision to continue strengthening the total defense and the investment in a National Cyber Security Center is indicative of the fact that threats to Swedish businesses have increased significantly recently. The increasingly broad threat landscape means there is a need to tighten the level of security at all levels, both digitally and physically, to ensure protection across the entire threat spectrum.

The Swedes' high trust in authorities and other social institutions is one of our most important assets. We see it as critical to defend it. Our customers often conduct socially important activities and have the absolute highest security requirements. Now it is more important than ever that their sensitive information is protected. Not only for the customers themselves, but for the trust in our social institutions in general. This requires that we can work safely, securely, and robustly on an ever larger scale. Together with Omegapoint, we have the opportunity to do just that, says Nicklas Haglund.

The acquisition strengthens Omegapoint's position as a leader in cybersecurity and cyber-secure digitalization. They now have their sights set on markets outside the Nordics, where they want to help secure more of our increasingly connected and interconnected societies.
